Loan + Eric {You & Me Session, Austin Portrait Session}

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The title is a tad misleading. Loan and Eric live in Houston, but during our session I learned that Loan actually grew up in Austin, attended Tx State University as I did (back when it was SWT the party school) and is a budding photographer herself!  They drove in for a special You & Me photo session because in two weeks they’ll be celebrating their one year anniversary. Congrats for making it to the first year! Tradition says that you’re to give your spouse paper as a gift for the 1st year anniversary. Doesn’t sound very interesting at first, does it?  But if you think about it : money is paper, tickets to Paris are paper, an all day gift certificate to a spa is paper and so are photographs. I love that they chose the last :)

Loan told me on the phone she LOVES the Soco Area (as we locals call it) so a South Congress Couples Session was in order! This area is probably where the “Keep it Weird” slogan came from as its filled with block after block of quirky boutiques filled with clothing and artifacts from local artisans. Its nice to go into a shop and purchase something that another is never going to find elsewhere. And yes, we did venture into the shops for a little bit of purchase guilt after the session, but DURING the session, OH.MY.GOODNESS. Did we ever have fun! Loan and Eric are so comfortable with one another and stylish I might add. They showcase exactly how the right pieces of clothing can pull quite a fun punch into a portrait session. If I had to shoot boring old “white top  with jeans” portrait everyday like they do at some of the corporate studios not worth naming, I.MIGHT.DIE.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it at least twenty times in the last week to my inquiring couples : it’s all about the layers and textures in your attire. Eric shows that you can still use a traditional shirt and jeans, but the stylish vest and tie make it WORK. Instantly you have a “look” that’s not formal, not stuffy GQ, but edgy in its own right. Loan herself can work it in those fancy 5″ heels. RAWR.

I live and love to be creative and quirky with my clients. With some colorful balloons and a couple ready to have some fun, we walked up and down South Congress and captured their love. More than a handful of times we laughed and in one area in particular, we laughed so hard we were in TEARS. Let’s just say that when you’re posing a couple its very important to pay attention to EVERYTHING or you may end up with something completely unexpected. HaHa!

Once again, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LOAN + ERIC !!!! I had such a fabulous time with you both. Lunch was yummy and hello, CUPCAKE! haha. Next time we WILL have our DosRita’s! :)

You’re so dreamy

After a much anticipation on my part, my latest Dream Album sample arrived at my door step last night. I couldn’t wait to see how my latest album design looked printed and published.

I Love it!

Making the decision to change album companies after 4 yrs wasn’t easy.  I researched many companies, reviewed many samples and most of all, read many reviews from other photographers and their clients. My old books were coffeebook style and each time I sat down to design a book I was forced to limit my creativity to the  restrictions set forth by its binding. I had to be careful to not loose important part of an image in the folds of the pages so that meant I couldn’t display yummy landscape images in all their glory. My new Dream Albums change all that!  I now have the freedom to design a layout with a full 18-24 inches of beautiful images. This is what we call “flush mount.”

Here my latest sample – a  9×9 30 page Dream Album. I opted for a timeless black leatherette cover with milk core.

These albums are available for weddings, engagement sessions (guest books) and any portrait session with Keepsake Images. This particular sample is to showcase how to use your engagement session images as a guestbook. Incorporate your guests well wishes within the pages of your book by setting it out on your guest table for them to sign!  (Cost varies for different sizes/sessions so visit the Portfolio page for more information or contact me directly.)

I love the 2mm thick pages in every album. Durability means it should last for generations with proper love and care.  :)

Jeannette & Daniel ~ You + Me Session {Houston Photographer}

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Happy Monday morning and thanks for coming in!

For me, Mondays are a time to reflect on weekends and set the pace for a great week, at least in my head I think that’s all their good for. Afterall, I’d much rather be sleeping in late and watching cartoons with my son ;)   And it’s also a good time for me to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with….blogging. Let me explain. My love for my clients and my sessions is deep so after I’m done shooting, more often than not I will rush home to pop a CF card into my reader and scan/edit/post my fave images. And then it happens. Again. That urge to continue forward and “take a few minutes” to upload it to facebook.  And tag everyone. And friend request new people I met during a wedding. Oh,  why not add my fave images to my site portfolio too while I’m add it? Before I know it, its 2am and I’ve just cheated myself of extra hours of yummy sleep before I hear a tiny little voice calling to me from down the hall, “Maaaaaaaaa. “  Blogging is just one more thing that keeps me from my pillow, but I know how much clients love to follow them so I’m making the sacrifice. I’m bringing the blog back. Because I want my clients to be happy and have something to read while they’re staying up way past their bedtime looking at pretty pics too :)

Meet Jeannette & Daniel.

Although the calendar says the “fall season” is here, the temps reaching 100 on Saturday afternoon didn’t quite support this fact. Even so, Jeannette and Daniel brought  “it” and they were such troopers as we walked around a downtown Houston plaza.  Upon arriving I asked if they shop together because they coordinated so well.  Jeannette sweetly stated, “Actually, Daniel just saw what I had put together for myself and coordinated around that for each outfit change.”  Smart smart man this Daniel, isn’t he ;)   I suggested a modern location with plenty of textured & colorful scenery and they came through and then some.

Most would think its not easy to capture images of love when you’re decked out fall fashion, but J&D owned it! And other blog-stalkers and huge photography fans may agree with me they remind me so much of the fabulous Jasmine Star & JD.
